UNESCO’s biosphere reserve model combines conservation with learning and sustainable local life. Core, buffer, and transition areas have different roles and are designed to work together.
Three complementary zones
- Core areas prioritize biodiversity and significant natural or cultural heritage.
- Buffer areas support research, education, and activities compatible with conservation.
- Transition areas connect communities, livelihoods, and sustainable regional development.
What the Lab intends to document
- Relationships between rivers, farming, and everyday life.
- Responsible visits that respect ecology and local communities.
- Regional agricultural products and producer stories, with consent.
- The distinction between verified facts, field records, and project interpretation.
